Keep access to your pastes when you change machines
You have created pastes you may want to edit or delete later, and you are about to clear your browser or move to a new machine.
When you are done: A file that restores edit and delete rights anywhere.
Steps
Open My pastes and export your keys.
Store the file the way you store passwords.
Anyone holding it can edit or delete those pastes.
On the new browser, open My pastes and import the file.
Reload, and confirm the list looks right.
Watch out
- Clearing site data without exporting first is unrecoverable. There is no account to restore from, which is the direct cost of not requiring one.
- The file cannot restore decryption keys for end-to-end encrypted pastes. Those exist only in the links you saved, never in the browser, so keep those links too.
- Importing never overwrites a key already on the device. If a file disagrees, the existing key wins and the difference is reported, because guessing wrong would destroy working access.
